Darleen Jarry Stigall

In her 21-year teaching career, Darleen Jarry Stigall has spent the last nine years as a middle school Earth and Life Science teacher at Swift Creek Middle School in Chesterfield County, Va., one of the 100 largest school districts in the nation and the fourth largest in Virginia.

She has taught grades four, six and seven. Darleen’s passion for education was sparked during her student teaching experience at Pomperaug Elementary School in Southbury, Ct. Her mission is to empower students to become lifelong learners and instill within them a belief that they can reach any goal they set for themselves.

Darleen has a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Connecticut State University. With a passion for making a difference in education, she served three years as the local chapter president of the 2,000-member Chesterfield Education Association. She has been a member of the National Education Association for 21 years, a sponsor of the Science and Ecology Club for 8 years and a Sunday School youth teacher. At the heart of any classroom is its teacher, and Darleen certainly exemplifies one of the best in the profession by being a nominee for the 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year award.
